Elm Creek Quilts Series by Jennifer Chiaverini
Review by Vicki Carver
“
Elm Creek Quilts” is the title of a popular series of
books written by Jennifer Chiaverini. There are
presently six books included in the series. They
are:
The Quilter’s Apprentice,
Round Robin,
The
Cross-Country Quilters,
The Runaway Quilt,
The Quilter’s
Legacy,
The Master Quilter.
Master quilter Sylvia Compson
has returned to her family’s home, Elm Creek Manor, to
prepare the home for being sold. Sylvia hires a young
woman, Sarah McClure, to help her sort through many
years worth of family possessions. Included in those
possessions are many old handmade quilts. Sarah is
intrigued by the old quilts and their histories. Soon
Sylvia begins teaching Sarah how to quilt and it
gradually becomes apparent that the future of Elm
Creek Manor is different from what Sylvia had
envisioned. Elm Creek Manor eventually becomes a
welcome place for quilters to spend time together
learning about quilting and making quilts. Sylvia and
Sarah collaborate their effort to promote the success
of their new business venture. Elm Creek Manor is a
great success and the succeeding novels tell about
people who come and spend a week three to quilt and
make new friends. Of course every quilter has a story
to tell and Chiaverini is a master at pulling the
reader into the lives of the quilters. Each book in the
series has a unique theme and its own group of
characters. Sylvia Compson and Sarah McClure are the
main characters in the first novel, The Quilter’s
Apprentice. They are also involved in the subsequent
novels as they interact with the various
characters. Serious quilters may also want to view
Elm
Creek Quilts: Projects Inspired by the Elm Creek
Quilts Novels. It illustrates all the quilts mentioned
in the series with complete instructions for
completing them.“Elm Creek Quilts” are enjoyable
stories for anyone who is interested in quilting
whether a beginner or experienced quilter.
