Bubbles Yablonsky is a beautician, but prefers being called a hair stylist. She dresses like a Barbie doll, is ditzy and impulsive with a weakness for handsome men.
A single mother, she has a teenage daughter whom she loves but who is driving her crazy, changing her hair color regularly from purple to tangerine. Ex-husband, Dan the man, is an attorney whose education was financed by Bubbles working as a "hair stylist." Dan is busy social climbing with his new wife and is embarrassed by Bubbles.
Bubbles decides there has to be more to life than giving dye jobs at the House of Beauty and sets her goal on journalism. After a few classes at the community college, she is hired part time at the local newspaper.
Her high school physics teacher is ready to jump from a bridge and Bubbles is assigned to the story.
After talking him down, her big break results in a lawsuit and a murder investigation. She has lots of help solving the case with her daughter, Jane and Lulu, her gun-toting, shoplifting mother.
This is Ms. Strohmeyer's first novel but not her last. She is working on the next book in the Bubbles series.
