As we enter a new year, the Highland County District Library wishes their patrons a safe and happy 2012!

Walter Isaacson's biography of "Steve Jobs" is based on more than forty interviews with the late personal computer pioneer.  There will no doubt be other biographies of Steve Jobs to come but this one shows Jobs as he wanted his children to know him.

"The Scrapbook of Frankie Pratt" by Caroline Preston is both a novel and a true scrapbook.  Subtitled "a novel in pictures," this is a comic book/graphic novel for romantics.

Congresswoman Gabrielle "Gabby" Giffords was not nationally known until January 8, 2011, when she was the victim of an assassination attempt that left six people dead and thirteen wounded.  Although Giffords was shot in the head, she is making what doctors call a miraculous recovery.  "Gabby – A Story of Courage and Hope," co-written by Giffords and her husband Mark Kelly, describe their passage to that day in Arizona and the journey from it.

At the end of 2008, Bernard Madoff was arrested on charges of swindling thousands of investors, including friends and family members, out of millions of dollars.  Laurie Sandell has written "Truth and Consequences – Life inside the Madoff Family," and Stephanie Madoff Mack has written "The End of Normal," in an attempt to make some sense of how what is called the largest Ponzi scheme in the world could have gone unnoticed for so long.

Published by the Ohio University Press, "The Midwestern Native Garden" is a guide to native alternatives that can easily replace nonnative flowers and plants.  This is a welcome guide to gardeners who want to create an authentic sense of place using native Midwestern plants.
