E-Books

Well, your wishes* may have already come true. If you have home internet access from a computer, you will be able to "check out" e-books from home that will "return" themselves. (Okay, actually, you download the e-books and after 3 weeks they become unusable. That book then becomes available for someone else to download.) If you have a portable computer or PDA, you can take several books on vacation with you. No worries! They'll "return" themselves.

E-book Update -- January 2009 --The SEO e-book catalog and the Ohio e-book catalog both have a limited number of digital videos available to check out and download. They are not generally "new" films and often are documentaries. Don't try it if you have only dial-up access as the files are quite large. (Don't forget if you are logging into the Ohio e-book catalog you select SEO as your library.)

E-book Update -- August 2008 Many of you may have noticed the Ohio e-Book Link at the bottom left of the SEO e-book catalog. Yes, your card will work in that catalog as well as ours. So if we don't have it, well they may. (Select SEO as your library from their list.)

E-book Update -- Jan 2005 Digital Audio Books Are Now available for Checkout
These are from many of the same companies that have produced audio books on CD and Tape. All you need is a library card, a home internet connection and PC, a free download of Overdrive Media Console and you can download digital audio books to play from your PC, from CD in your car, or from many PDAs and MPEG players (so long as they also play WMA files.)

E-book Update -- 12/03/2004

Our E-book Collection has more than doubled in size in the last few months as the result of a second grant and we hope you have had a chance to enjoy them.

They are formatted to be read on either the Adobe Reader 6.0.1 or the Mobipocket Reader. The free version of either of these will be fine. If you have a previous version of Adobe Acrobat, it won't work. We are told it is easiest to download the new version, rather than try to upgrade. You will need to check the box to download the full version, but not the box about the Photoshop© album starter. The download will take about 30-40 minutes on a 56K modem. The Mobipocket reader is a faster download (10-15 minutes) but does not currently allow you to return your e-books early nor is the read aloud feature included.

Library users can have no more than 10 e-books checked out at the same time.
Library users will need to check out the books using all 14 digits of their barcode & also their PINs. How to get a card.
