What's this RSS? (It looks like a Mess!)

It's hard enough keeping up with the news of the day, so it's not surprising that many of you aren't up on the latest library news.  Yet many of our patrons have expressed disappointment at having missed some of our programs and surprise at existing services.  So we have syndicated our library news through RSS (Really Simple Syndication), so that our patrons, or anyone really, can see our library headlines either on a Netscape® 8.0 browser toolbar or through an free online aggregator (a site that offers web feeds from different sources together in a uniform layout) such as the My Yahoo® page, Google® personal homepage, My MSN® or Bloglines® (to name a few).

But why would I want to Go to an Aggregator instead of just going to the library homepage?  Because the aggregator can also show you headlines from many other sites.  Including such things as the news of the day (either generally, or by country or sport), Inspirational Quotes, Books by category from Amazon.com, job openings, and a wide variety of other things.  These customized homepages can help you keep up with the information you want and need without becoming bogged down in the massive flow of information that isn't relevant to you.

Why is the RSS Link Page Gibberish?
Don't worry that's not how the news will look, you just need to copy the RSS Link Page Address from the address bar on your browser to be able to add it to your customized homepage or RSS feed aggregator.   The page is written in XML and will be recognized by the aggregator software as an RSS feed that it can add and read.
