The Highland County Senior Citizens Center is a non-profit organization established in 1970. Membership is open to anyone 50 years or older; spouses may join regardless of age. Dues are $20.00 per year. The Center is handicap accessible in compliance with the Americans With Disabilities Act.

PROGRAMS AND SERVICES

Lunch is served daily at 11:30 a.m. Cost is $3.00 for Center members, $4.00 for non-members. The public is welcome.  The menu changes daily.

Home delivered meals are available within Hillsboro.

The Country Store, selling homemade and handmade items, is open Monday through Friday.  

Social Security Representatives from the Chillicothe office are at the Center the third Wednesday of each month from 9:00 a.m. to noon.  No appointment is necessary. This free service is open to the public.

Free Hearing Screenings are scheduled by appointment.

AARP Tax Aides provide assistance with income tax forms and filing February - April, by appointment.  Scheduling preference is given to senior citizens. 

Free Blood Pressure Screenings are held the second and fourth Wednesday of each month.

In addition, the Center can provide links/referrals to various services and support groups throughout Highland and surrounding counties.

 

SOCIAL, RECREATIONAL & VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Low-impact Exercise Class is held daily 9:00 a.m.

Hatha Yoga Class meets on Thursdays at 9:00 a.m. Cost for Yoga is $5 per session.

The Crafters
meet each Monday at 10:00 a.m.  Sewing, crocheting, knitting and a variety of handcrafts are done in a congenial atmosphere.

The Center’s Ceramics Department
pours, cleans, glazes and fires the pieces, which are available for sale to members and the public.  The Ceramics room is open Monday through Friday. Ceramics Class Tuesdays at 10:00 am.

The Senior Painting Group
meets each Thursday morning at 9:00.  Whether you are just learning or are an experienced artist, this is an opportunity to express yourself!

Most mornings at the Center you’ll find several ladies busy quilting.  Our quilters stitch everything from baby quilts to king-size quilts to wall hangings.  They also do completion work and can do special orders from “scratch.”

The Center’s entertainment groups can be seen throughout the county at community fairs, nursing homes, festivals and senior centers. They are: The Over the Hill Gang, The Sunshine Band, the Senior Chorus and the Silver Liners Line Dancers.  

Chair Volleyball
is played Wednesdays and Fridays at 9:45 a.m. It’s great exercise and lots of laughs.  Rookies are encouraged to join in the fun.

A Birthday Party is held the last Friday of each month to honor those members whose birthday falls within that month.  The Center provides meat, table service and beverages.  Please bring a covered dish to share.

Cards & Pool
Bridge: Tuesday and Friday, 12:30.  Beginners welcome.
Euchre: Wednesday, 12:30.
Five-Hundred: Thursday, 12:30.
Bid Euchre: Friday at 12:30.  
Pool and various card games are ongoing.    
    
One-day and overnight trips are offered through the Center. On next year’s schedule are Canada, Alaska, Colorado Rockies and more.

The Center is open from noon – 2:00 p.m. Christmas Day each year for a complete dinner and fellowship.
